Report: Two Flyweight Titles up for grabs at UFC 255

UFC 255, which is set to take place in November 21st, will reportedly see two titles up for grabs.

Newly crowned men’s flyweight champion Deiveson Figuiredo who recently beat Joe Benevidez to pick up the crown is set to face divisional newcomer Cody Garbrandt in what will be his first defence of his title. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto broke the news on Friday.

It was also reported that current women’s flyweight champion returns from injury to defend her title against Jennifer Maia. Shevchenko, who is riding a five fight win streak will return after a successful defence against Katlyn Chookagian. ‘The Bullet’ came from that victory with an injured leg. She was set to face Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251 but had to pull from that fight.

Calderwood herself chose not to wait it out and she stepped in last weekend and went up against Jeniffer Maia in a title eliminator. Maia jumped at her opportunity and secured an armbar victory over the Scot. That victory saw her leapfrog Calderwood into contention for a title shot.

In a division that was under huge threat of being folded, it seems knockout artist Figeredio has brought the 125 pound division back to life. The Brazilian is on a four fight win streak and has knocked out opposition in 3 out of those four fights. He will defend his title against former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. The American star returned at UFC 250 with an impressive walk off KO over Raphael Assunção. He will make his debut at flyweight in what is sure to be a baptism of fire.

Both fights are set to take place on November 21st at UFC 255. Where the event will take place is yet to be announced.
