Cage Legacy 13 Preview

Cage Legacy returns for its first show of the year on Saturday March 14th in Drogheda, Ireland. The card is going to be an action packed all amateur event featuring some of the countries most highly touted up and comers in Mixed Martial Arts.

Speaking with SevereMMA, Cage Legacy Owner/Promoter Declan Kenna spoke about his excitement about the upcoming card.

“There are a lot of high level fights on the card. Every single fight on this card is amazing from top to bottom. This show is sure to be a sell out and we only have a couple of tickets left so if anybody wants to get tickets they should get them straight away.”

The Main Event see’s top amateur’s Alexander O’Sullivan (C-Mac) take on Solomon King Simon (Team Ryano Waterford). This fight will be contested for the Lightweight Title.

“This is one of the best fights we’ve put on in a long time”, said Kenna. ‘’It could go either way. Solomon was supposed to take on Emil[Piatek] but unfortunately Emil got injured so Alex stepped in. It’s going to be a brilliant fight.”

The co-Main Event sees more gold on the line as the Flyweight Title is up for grabs. Current champion Micky Pereria (Team Torres)  defends his belt against Ger Harris (SBG Charlestown). Kenna was equally enthusiastic about this fight and the rest of the card.

“That’s a belter of a fight. Ger Harris is IMMAF world champion and Micky is our current Cage Legacy champion so that is an excellent fight.”

“I think all the fights on the card are amazing. I could be here all day telling you about every single fight on this card.”

If two title fights are not enough to wet your appetite well fear not as Cage Legacy has 3 more belts up for grabs along with 14 other bouts that stand out in their own way. Karl Riordan (SBG Charlestown) battles against Darragh Higgins (Conriocht) for the Light Heavyweight Title. Valdrim Lubishtani (SBG Nass) faces Pa Lehane for the Super Lightweight Title and the Featherweight Tile is up for grabs when Mickey Byrne (SBG D24) squares off against Keith Keogh (C-Mac).

Cage Legacy, formed in 2015, promoted it’s first show in 2016. The aim of the promotion is to put fighter safety first and to bring maximum entertainment to the fight fans. Kenna highlights the importance of those aspects in the promotion.

“We work with Safe MMA and also with IMMA to ensure fighter safety. We were the first to bring in the brain scans for amateurs and we are proud of that on the safety side. Fighter safety is number one at Cage Legacy, we take pride in that.”

“We look to give the platform for up and coming fighters. We like to put on a show as opposed to just putting on MMA fights. We want to entertain the crowd and entertain the audience through the art of MMA. This will be the first night of elite MMA. The elite amateur fights will have no rash guard and no shin pads on. We will have the same day weigh ins and we are under the same rule set as IMMAF.”

If you’re unable to attend the event or didn’t pick up a ticket in time Cage Legacy will be available to view by means of PPV.

“We will have a PPV link on cagelegacy.com for anybody that can not attend the event. You can go on and watch all the fights with full commentary, all the cameras and the works. We are also looking for 1,000 subscribers on our YouTube page. If all the fans could do us a favour and subscribe to that channel it would be appreciated. Once we hit the 1000 mark we will have the ability to live stream the event from there.”

The Cage Legacy train keeps on moving after this event with another show already announced on May 30th at the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin. Cage Legacy doesn’t plan on stopping there. Kenna spoke promisingly about what the future holds.

“There is a big gap in the market that we are looking to fill. We are hoping to put on 5 shows this year with the second show already announced for Dublin in May. The fight card should be announced for that in the coming days. We believe we can take the promotion to Europe. We want to move over into the UK and possibly put on shows in France and Spain before bringing it back to Ireland. That’s our plan for the future.”
