“Total Extreme Fighting (TEF) MMA are delighted to announce our first ever event, which will take place on the 9th April in the National Stadium, Dublin. Our card will be headlined with a huge lightweight title fight between Luka Jelcic and Piotr Niedzielski.

Luka Jelcic (6 – 2) originated from Croatia and as a result of being the son of a boxer and soldier Luka has been training in martial arts since the age of five until he was seven. After a hiatus from martial arts to pursue other interests Luka started training again at fifteen and began training full time at nineteen. Despite the fact that the likes of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic come from the country Luka had to travel around Croatia training in various boxing, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  gyms because of the lack of specialist MMA facilities and sparring partners. Luka fought until he earned the money to move to Ireland to work under the tutelage of John Kavanagh in Straight Blast Gym.

Piotr Niedzielski (6 – 1) represents Poland in the TEF main event and fights out of Ankos MMA in Poznan. Piotr has been practising Greco-Roman wrestling since the age of eleven and has three years of mixed martial arts experience. Piotr transitioned from wrestling to MMA alongside several other members of his wrestling team and he credits his Ankos teammate and current KSW welterweight champion Borys Mankowski for introducing him to the sport. Ankos houses some extremely talented fighters but Piotr has also travelled to hone his skills. He previously trained in Allstars Stockholm, home of UFC light heavyweight superstar Alexander Gustafsson.

Both men have overcome the agony of defeat in their careers and, like all champions, have come back stronger because of it.

After being on the wrong side of a judge’s decision in his last fight, Luka was at a career crossroads. “It’s either fight or flight regarding my professional career” he claimed, before adding “I choose to fight on because there is nothing I care more about than my girlfriend, my family, fighting, and martial arts.” Luka’s last fight was “a loss on paper, but a win in many ways” because it gave him the financial security to move to Ireland and a renewed focus on his MMA career.

Piotr suffered his sole loss near the beginning his career to a more experienced opponent. He did not let that early setback faze him and told us “that loss motivated me a lot and, after all, helped me to become a better fighter.”

The main event for the TEF lightweight belt looks to be a blockbuster, with both fighters determined to bring home the gold, but that is only one fight of our stacked card. Ronan McKay faces Claudio Conti in the middleweight division. Northern Irishman McKay comes into this bout on the back of a four fight winning streak, while the Italian, Conti, has an unusual streak of his own. His last two fights were draws.
