Arni Isaksson vs Wayne Murrie confirmed for main event of Cage Contender in Belfast

Cage Contender’s latest additions Wayne Murrie and Arni Isaksson are now confirmed for a Cage Contender interim welterweight championship bout on 20th October in Belfast, in what is set for the main event, following the withdrawal of Liam Shannon.

Cage Contender owner John Ferguson had teased the potential match up to us yesterday and today he confirmed it

“Once we had both guys on contract, it was just a matter of time until we got this fight put together”

“Cage Contender wanted it, the fighters wanted it and importantly the fans wanted it!”

With the main event between Liam Shannon and The Ultimate Fighter veteran Ross Pointon falling apart yesterday, Ferguson moved fast to replace the bout with what many will consider a more intriguing bout.

‘The Gladiator’ Pointon has since been matched up with former Antrim kickboxing champion Connor Cooke

“We have had a few changes on the card over the past couple days, and we are fortunate to have a card as strong if not stronger than orginally anticipated”

When pressed about the future of the welterweight belt and their current champion Cathal Pendred, owner Ferguson revealed plans to meet with Pendred’s camp to discuss the future of the belt

“This is for an interim title, because our champion is contracted elsewhere at the moment. We need to keep our titles active and this is the way to do that”

“We will sit down with Cathal’s camp between now and Christmas and plan a way forward”

Tickets for Cage Contender XV are from £30-£65 and can be purchased from Cage Contender.com.
